GIMP doesn't have RAW support directly. There is a UFRaw plugin, but you may be better served by a dedicated RAW converter such as RawTherapee, DarkTable, or LightZone. (These are all free and open source.) If you need to do touch-up work after raw conversion, you can export a TIFF file and import that into Gimp.

Aug 03, 2016 · Is there a way to open raw directly in GIMP yet? On Linux there is the gimp-ufraw importer, which I have installed. It is not necessary to install the ufraw standalone also. Run GIMP, click File > Open, double click your Raw file, wait for conversion window, adjust EV to fill histogram, click OK, then edit in GIMP.

From installing and opening both programs, I found it challenging to connect the two programs. I did some quick research regarding this, and most articles proposed opening raw files in GIMP.
