Aug 29, 2013 · The Apple TV does support AAC audio, but it will just transcode this and output 2ch PCM audio. 5.1 AC3 output is an option on Apple TV, but only if the video in question has a 2nd AC3 audio track. IIRC, these are the settings Handbrake will default to when using the Apple TV preset (2ch AAC, and 5.1 AC3 passthrough).

Feb 01, 2016 · This function is awesome, if source is AAC 5.1, my A/V (Audio Output set to AUTO, PCM and Recoding inactive) is showing up AC3 5.1 and there also seems to be authentic 5.1 coming out of the speakers. Exactly what i've been looking for for a long time. Thank you edit: forget the nonsense about higher cpu load also during playback of 2.0 sources.

Playing transcoded files to AC3 and with the OSMC set to enable Passthrough in the audio settings the AVR is reporting 3/2/.1 as input and plays 5.1 multichannel audio. So, I’m guessing the ATV does not decode AAC-HE or AAC-LC multichannel containers to PCM … but I don’t know why or how I could make this happen.

Jul 30, 2013 · The problem is with 5.1 AAC audio; my home theater receiver does not support decoding of this format, so pass through won't work. After a bit of online research, I found that the AAC format needs to be pre-processed to AC3 by the computer, then it will be decoded by the receiver as Dolby Digital. I set this in AC3Filter as shown:

Oct 28, 2019 · When using XBMC, audio files with DTS encoding play fine but files with "aac 5.1" encoding only show up on the receiver as "PCM". Can someone explain if this is right? How do I get Dolby Digital to my speakers? I do have XBMC (Frodo) outputting HDMI sound. Also Windows 7 is set to HDMI 7.1 output under Playback Devices.

Dec 26, 2014 · To get XBMC to transcode AAC 5.1 to AC3 5.1, in the Audio Setting under System, ensure you have Passthrough enabled, and the number of speakers set to 2.0. (This doesnt affect your ability to pass 5.1 audio on the passthrough, as it essentially does nothing for a passthrough device, but the setting does enable the next option).
