Aug 23, 2011 · Some more from my Home Lab and vSphere 5 concerning the onboard Realtec NIC cards. During period running my Lab with vSphere 4.1 there was no way to run the onboard Realtek NIC cards without hacking some of the files present on the original vSphere 4.1 iso.

Dec 03, 2017 · I happened to notice the same issue in ESXi 6.0 update3 I couldn't see the Auto-negotiate option too and have intel x540-at2 network interface on ESXi host. Putty to the ESXi host and enable auto negotiation on the interface from command line. 1. # esxcfg-nics -a <vmnic2> 2. Login into vSphere Client and you should see the autonegotiate appear.

On March 12th 2015 VMware released ESXi 6.0 and I explained in another post how to get Realtek and Marvell NICs to work with it. Unfortunately it is not as easy as with ESXi 5.5, because in 6.0 VMware "blacklisted" the drivers of ESXi 5.1, so you need to use net55-r8168 for Realtek 8168 chips and/or my "replacement" packages net51-r8169 and net51-sky2 instead.

If you upgrade from vSphere 5.0 or earlier to vSphere 5.1 or later, SR-IOV support is not available until you update the NIC drivers for the vSphere release. NICs must have firmware and drivers that support SR-IOV enabled for SR-IOV functionality to operate.
