Dec 03, 2008 · If however you are wanting to run Ubuntu in Japanese and you already have an installation, you can easily add Japanese translation by adding Japanese in the 'Language Support' dialogue (System / Administration in Gnome), selecting Japanese as default language, loggin out and then selecting Japanese under 'Select Language' at the log on screen.

In the normal Ubuntu 15.04 installation there is a language support section, and apparently in earlier versions of Ubuntu Gnome, however in Ubuntu Gnome 15.04 I cannot find this functionality.

Because Mozc is not installed with the base-system, you have to install the Japanese language support first. Otherwise Mozc won't be available as input-method in the Text Entry settings. Additionally this will install some nice Japanese fonts and Japanese translations for Ubuntu if you ever want to use your System in Japanese.
