Providing a value of zero to the Overhang threshold parameter tells Slic3r to detect places to provide support automatically, otherwise the degrees given will be used. Support Material Support Material Generate Support Material: This turns on and off the generation of support material. Overhang Threshold: The last angle at which support material will be generated. Larger numbers will result in more support. Set to 0 to enable automatic settings.

Overhang threshold : Slic3r checks for the overhang angle, if the angle your printing out is higher then this number then it will print support material under it. The default is 0 but should be changed under some situations. Keeping a low support angle isn’t necessary, many printers can print 15-20 degrees without any issues of over hangs.

so I'm attempting to use the "Enforce support for the first" option in Slic3r but the settings don't seem to change regardless of the value that I enter. Am open to using a different slicer program but don't have any experience with others and am not sure if I'm doing something wrong with Slic3r.

Sep 06, 2013 · I'm having a real hard time getting the support material to work correctly in Slic3r. I posted something similar in someone elses topic a little while back, but did not elicit any direct responses. So here it goes. My problem is with the Overhang Threshold setting. It doesn't seem to work, or at least it doesn't work as I thin it should.

It appears that no matter what value I input, other than zero, it's either ignored or it makes very little difference in the generated support. ... The issue I'm experiencing with Slic3r master is that support material seems to only be starting a layer or two before it's needed ...
