This solved my issue with supports not coming apart easily. I'm sure those well versed with Slic3r may already know this but, adding a couple interface layers and adding spacing between those layers really helps prevent support material from sticking to the print.

Jun 15, 2015 · In slic3r the spacing between support and object have a default value. But with some prints you can need to change this default value to get a better result .It also depend of the material you are using : supports with PLA don't need the same spacing as supports with ABS.

But in terms of Slic3r settings you could experiment with: (print settings >> support material) pattern spacing (he has here something around 5mm) pattern (I'd say the best for you is rectlinear) contact z distance (choose 0.2 or close to that)
