It's a huge thing to support. According to Adobe 75% of the online streamed content is through it, which I do not doubt. While, yes I agree it's inferior to VC-1, FLV is less CPU intensive. Whenever I watch VC-1 content in Silverlight my CPU jumps to 30%+. FLV is around 10%. It is a better suited format for mobile device streaming.
