The A20 's SATA controller is confirmed to support PMP from a variety of sources. It only supports the slower Command-based switching and not the faster FIS-based mode. Update: NVIDIA has provided information (under NDA) that permits implementation of NCQ support, and a sample Linux implementation (patch) as well. Unfortunately, the patch needs debugging, and no one seems to have the time or motivation. NOTE: Newer NVIDIA chipsets are AHCI, and use the ahci driver rather than the sata_nv driver.

Jan 07, 2012 · I need to find out how to enable or install the SATA AHCI driver in Ubuntu 10.04 when I have the BIOS serial ATA setting to the IDE compatibility mode ? This is a multi-boot system from 2009 with a few versions of Windows installed, (all were installed when in the IDE emulation compatibility mode, and now changing it to AHCI mode in the BIOS).

@timelessbeing, of course you don't need to do reinstallation. Even if something goes wrong, you can reenable IDE mode again. But the linux kernel, which is responsible for AHCI support, is perfect enough to prevent such situation to happen. – Danatela Jul 3 '13 at 5:23
