Aug 01, 2018 · You are only thinking of flat surfaces. A good example where Frictionless Support is used is on the cylindrical surface of a hole to represent that hole being mounted to a rigid shaft, which is not in the model, and gives the body with the hole rotational and axial freedom about the hole axis. I don't think you can do that with Symmetry Region.

Apply frictionless constraints to prevent surfaces from moving or deforming in the normal direction. You can apply frictionless constraints to both flat and cylindrical surfaces in a part. When applied to flat surfaces, frictionless constraints mimic the behavior of symmetry boundary conditions. However, unlike symmetry constraints, frictionless constraints do not require the setup of a local ...

May 26, 2008 · well, Frictionless Support is one of the ways you can use for symmetry. Conceptually better is to use the "Symmetric Region" command. In a near future, Workbench will be able to handle the "general" type of symmetry, i.e. cyclic symmetry, just like Classical does, and I presume the command to be used will be something very similar to the one I mention.

May 30, 2019 · At the surfaces, where I did cut through the wire, I applied a "frictionless support", because those areas lie in the symmetry plane. I get this as a result for the quarter modell. This looks at the first moment well and as I expected, but when I look at the full modell, I realise a mistake: I think, this is because of the symmetry.

Frictionless Support: • Applies constraints (fixes) in the normal direction on surfaces. • For solid bodies, this support can be used to apply a structural symmetry boundary condition.
