Apr 20, 2011 · It appears that Lotus Notes does not support VSS, the first 2 servers are only used 8 - 5 (ish) so I suppose stopping the domino service before the backup and restarting after the backup would be an option ?. ... all you need here is to use pre-freeze script that will stop Domino service and as soon as snapshot is created will start it again ...

on customer request I created a video that shows backup and single mail restore for lotus domino with Veeam Backup & Replication. A Lotus Domino is non VSS aware (anyway this is the case under Linux). So you have only 2 options for consistent backups as IBM do not support VSS Filesystem only backups:

Since Domino Server doesn't support VSS, we'd recommend using start/stop scripts to have consistent backups of its databases. We already have a feature request to fully support IBM Domino Server Backup (internal ID for ref ABR-67261). I've added your post as a vote for the feature request.

Using Lotus Domino as corporate messaging system, the databases consistency is guaranteed running custom quiescing scripts (pre-freeze and post-thaw) stored in C:\Windows in the Domino Server during the backup job.
