May 24, 2015 · I have just tried it in the latest available Windows 10 build as of today (10074) and I can indeed confirm that there's now native playback support for Apple Lossless. Windows Media Player was able to play my test Apple Lossless file, without the installation of any additional DirectShow or Media Foundation filters.

FLAC, ALAC, AAC lossless, Monkey's Audio, and WMA lossless all serve the exact, same purpose: to give you a lossless file in a compact size. FLAC is the de facto lossless standard for traders and download sites. Still, today, not everything plays FLAC, but it's the best option, IMO.

May 26, 2006 · Is there software available to allow Windows Media Player to play Apple Lossless Audio Format files? If so where do I get it. I get the impression FFDSHOW is supposed to support Apple Lossless but I cannot see how to get that to work in Windows Media Player.
