Dec 23, 2008 · Windows Vista supporting Quad core question. Brief Description: I recently upgraded from an AMD dual core 6400+ to an AMD quad core 9950 along with the proper mother board and etc. On the hard drive is Windows Vista (32), upgraded from XP (32).

Nov 22, 2007 · All versions of Vista support a quad core CPU. the 32-bit version of Vista can only support up to 4GB RAM. If you had the 64-bit version, you should be able to install OK.

In 32 bit mode, a lot depends on how your OS handles the dual core versus a dual processor configuration. The second core may spend a lot of time doing nothing if the OS cannot direct tasks to it. I have not dug into the details of Vista that much yet.

Jul 11, 2008 · He installed a quad core QX6700 CPU, and is unable to install any version of vista. It ran fine (vista) with a 965 cpu, but was unable to boot into vista with the quad core. So he reformatted the drive, and tried to install rc1/rc2 and 64 but was unable to install any of them.

Apr 23, 2008 · Best Answer: Windows XP Pro not only supports quad core processors, but it also supports two of em (like in Skulltrail). However, the current standard is that most programs on the market can utilize only two cores at the most, very few can effectively use quad core processors. This is not to say that Windows itself doesn't.
