Sep 04, 2009 · We as a nation seem more tolerant than most, but I doubt that in the less tolerant countries there will be riots over HDMI/Toslink . But your right the theory doesn't seem to support the HDMI HD sound hype.

Sep 02, 2015 · Toslink doesn't support DRM which means Sonos probably can't get the license for DTS. The way around is to use switches that can extract the audio stream from an HDMI cable and sends it to a Toslink output.

May 15, 2013 · Toslink cable supports Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. It also supports DTS. However the newest audio formats from blu-ray such as Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio (MA) and Linear PCM (Linear Pulse-Code Modulation) have to go through HDMI. Toslink does not have the bandwidth to support the loss-less audio.

Apr 11, 2014 · Dolby Digital and DTS are supported via optical audio (as well as 2 channel audio usually up to 24 bit 96khz). You might want to check to see if there are any updates for your mobo that will allow you to use this option. You might try just connecting it to a surround sound receiver to see if the 5.1 channel indicator comes on.

Jan 22, 2008 · Starting with DVD, we had to start using Toslink instead of the old trusty red and white analog cables, but with HD DVD and Blu-ray, it's no longer that easy. As great as Toslink is, it's only capable of carying 1.5Mbps of data, which limits you to either lossy Dolby Digital, DTS, or two channel PCM (uncompressed).Author: Ben Drawbaugh

Dec 22, 2007 · Both carry the digital signal and can carry Dolby Digital, DTS and support 5.1 or 6.1 recordings. Many think that one is superior to the other but unless you are an audiophile with superb equipment it won't matter. Technically they both carry a PCM (pulse code modulation) signal.
