Oct 24, 2010 · Yes the PS3 can support gigabit and so does your PC. your ethernet cable needs to be cat6 tho becuase the one you have is only cat5e. Plus you might need to manually turn on the gigabit speeds on the ps3 and pc.

So I basically want to transfer some media from my PC to the Playstation 3 over my Gigabit Ethernet network. I noticed my transfer speeds aren't that hot, and I verified that I DO have a Gigabit Ethernet connection on my PC and PS3 and that Jumbo Frames are supported on both the Gigabit Switch (a cheapo Trendnet) and on the PC.

Mar 17, 2011 · You will see gigabit speeds! We all know (sadly) the PS3 is not Divx Plus HD cerified. This means the PS3 does not support the BEST and most efficient container format for ripping your Blurays! To play .mkv we need to transcode first using PS3 Media Server. Anything transcoded cannot take advantage of gigabit speeds!

Dec 27, 2008 · I have my pc going into my netgear gigabit switch. Two lights on the front of the switch confirm 1.0gbps. A quick look in vista --> network connections confirms this also. Now when i connect the PS3 to the switch using a cat5e cable im able to connect to the Internet etc, but i only get one light on the front of the switch showing 100mbps.

It's unlikely that your actual internet speed is high enough to take advantage of a gigabit, and there might be Ethernet cables that cap out at lower speeds also, but if nothing else connecting via Ethernet should give a more stable connection which might speed things up a bit. It does go up to 1 gigabit.
