There is no simple solution to this no support for full screen window in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. In almost all possible workarounds, you are almost guaranteed that your Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 will be broken in some way, at least on the part on Windows Aero.

The system does not support full screen mode. I still like to run a few dos applications, which use to work ok in XP in full screen, but when using either Vista or Windows 7. I can only rum these applications in a window.

Right click on the icon, select 'Compatibility', tick Run this program in compatibility mode for...and start with XP. If that doesn't work, move down the line. Or conversely, you can just tick 'Run in 640x480 screen resolution to see it that at least gets the game to run.

Some but not all Vista-based system ship with a video driver that does allow DOS applications (including WPDOS) to switch to full-screen mode. If you open WordPerfect for DOS, it will open in a window; if you press Alt-Enter to switch to full-screen mode, you will see an error message that says "This system does not support fullscreen mode."

Apr 23, 2011 · In XP you can toggle this mode by pressing Alt+Enter. Doing that in Vista just gets you a message “This system does not support full-screen mode”. And it’s true; the Windows Vista Display Driver Model (WDDM) precludes support of the necessary video mode. There is a kind of solution, and it’s even recommended by Microsoft.

There are some old progs - my favorite ones!!!- wich does not start with VISTA, even i tried to make them compatible to XP, or even VIN2000 or WIN98. However, I read a Microsoft KB926657 today, that the Windows Aero is not directly fail a Command Prompt full-screen mode. In fact, the new Windows Vista device drivers (based on the Windows Vista Display Driver Model, WDDM) do not support running all of the DOS video modes!
