Jan 02, 2009 · The Nikon D40 accepts both SD and SDHC cards. It can accept any size SDHC. Currently, the largest SDHC that I know of is 32GB. But since you can easily get 250+ (non-RAW) pictures from a D40 per GB, I don't think you need to go above 4GB per memory card.

The D40 does support SDHC, I use a 4GB Sandisk SDHC with no issues. Perhaps if you contact the seller you can get a replacement card or maybe even pay a few bucks extra for a different brand. Hope this gets worked out for you.

Oct 20, 2006 · I have been using both 16GIG & 32GIG Sandisk Extreme Class 10 cards with my Nikon D40 and have had no issues with either card. Both perform flawlessly. My D40 is running firmware versions: A-V1.12 B-V1.11. I have not tried either of these cards with previous firmware versions.

Dec 20, 2007 · The D40 Storage Media: SD memory card, SDHC compliant . So the D40 will accept a "secure digital high capacity" (SDHC) card. Any card which meets SD or SDHC specs should work in the D40. The fastest cards are likely to be the SanDisk Extreme IV cards or Sandisk Ducati cards.

Sep 06, 2007 · It is a new standard so older devices will not read an SDHC card that may well almost certainly include your multi card reader built into your tower or plugged into a USB port. The D40 (and D80) will work with both SD & SDHC cards.
