Hi Bruce, ROVI is not capable of supporting 1080p due to hardware limitations. Contour 2 devices default to 1080p and we do offer Contour 2 without DVR service. Jan 02, 2009 · i have an HDTV that supports both 1080i and 1080p. i have cox digital cable box that shows "1080i" on the LED display. both have HDMI and component cable connections. it seems that if the cable box only supports up to 1080i then HDMI would not buy any more resolution over component cables. is this true?
