It's an excellent house jack for the $$$. I added 5/4 blocks of mahogany top and bottom to better support the jack and brace. They call it a basement floor jack but I'm using it to raise beams to work on porch columns an other restoration work on our 1885 NYC home.

I'm redoing a basement after flooding and just found this little hack.. Apparently previous owner removed permanent support post for some reason and then at some point installed this temporary jack post and covered it up with dry-wall (Im guessing so house would pass inspection).
