Sep 29, 2018 · VST support exists but you are required to build it yourself due to Steinberg’s licensing terms. OMF is a 100% proprietary format, there are no documents available on it. We are investigating various attempts that have been made by open source developers to reverse engineer it, and simultaneously exploring AAF support.

Like the vst support question in Ardour was a bit conflictual (vst is a crappy system, it comes from the windows world, etc...) nevertheless AAF/OMF support is an essential condition for professional audio world to be able to switch on an Ardour/Linux based system production. Ardour is a great system, I just want to make things progress!

Ardour desperately needs an OMF and/or EDL import tool. Even the crudest implementation would be very useful. The real purpose of this posting is to see if there are any existing tools that I may have missed or to find out if there are any active projects to implement this or similar functions.

But at the moment, it seems like AAF/OMF support is only interesting for certain users, and every user has a different setup that might need individual attention. So it makes sense for someone to separate that feature into a paid product and support those users separately.
