No, Windows XP does not support the TRIM command by itself, although it appears OCZ has released firmware to give XP support for idle garbage collection for some of their SSDs. Idle garbage collection is not the same as TRIM and will not perform as well, but it works similarly.

Jan 16, 2013 · A TRIM command allows an operating system to inform a solid-state drive (SSD) which blocks of data are no longer considered in use and can be wiped internally. Dealer tells me that TRIM is a build-in function within Window 7, but not Window XP. Does anyone have any suggestions how to work with TRIM? if I install SSD within Window XP.

However it seems that newer SSDs have improved Garbage Collection, so may work with Windows XP. Is this true? In this regard, which would be a good SSD for Windows XP?

Feb 01, 2010 · When I said "It's not exaclty TRIM but something like defrag except it takes about 3 minutes." I mean it isn't done on a continuous basis as the TRIIM command would but it runs on a schedule like degrag.
