Apr 12, 2015 · I use QuickSync quite often, and I don't notice much of a difference between it and x264 -- apart from QuickSync's larger file sizes. My only complaint is that it's too much of a pain to enable QuickSync, and it can be even worse with certain software. For example, Sony Vegas refuses to use QuickSync even though it works fine with Handbrake.

Apr 01, 2015 · Thanks for your help guys. After doing a few encodes with x264 Slow, CRF 18, it's just ridiculous how good they look compared to the source and I did feel they looked better than Intel Quick Sync encodes on my display.

Turing is the only hardware encoder that beats QuickSync H.264 during bandwidth abundance. If you have a fantastic CPU and very limited bandwidth, x264 is better than QuickSync H.264/AVC. There is currently no reason to use QuickSync H.265/HEVC encoding if …

In this case, QuickSync may be the better option. During these tests, at 6Mpbs and 8Mbps, QuickSync H.264/AVC encoding outperforms all NVENC except Turing. At 4Mbps QuickSync takes a dive and Pascal/Maxwell make a comeback, but look at the VMAF scores. At this bitrate x264 clearly wins and is only 1/3rd the speed of Pascal on my i7-8086k CPU.

Oct 15, 2012 · When I use quicksync to encode to an h.264 file, then mux to mp4 using mp4box, Quicktime (Windows version) generally will not play the file correctly. Other players play it fine. The mux is apparently not the problem because the same mux command works on h.264 files from another h.264 encoder. I am encoding using a modified sample_encode from the media sdk examples.
