Winmodem is a generic term for a modem that uses software in place of hardware for certain functions. In technical terms, winmodems lack an instruction processing chip called a controller; winmodems are also referred to as controllerless modems or host-based modems.

NOTE: LT Winmodems are also decent and have excellent driver support. However we still find 3COM's Winmodem to be more stable and have better driver and technical support for their product. Software HSP/HCF Modems: No One Home Techs across the country cry out in fear when they hear a customer with an HSP/HCF modem is having connection problems.
