Dec 09, 2019 · I went and downloaded the Zune Software. Only to find that in 2011, MS still don't support FLAC. It looks great, but in this day you can't do that, especially when an open source plugin easily implemented (look at the plugin for WMP) exists.

FLAC is probably one of the best audio codec out there so I would not want to convert them. It would be nice to actually store them on the Zune drive in FLAC format. I will check the Linux forums and see if they hacked it so it can.

The Windows Mobile operating system is able to support playback of FLAC files through the use of plugins or third-party applications such as TCMP and others. Mar 10, 2010 · Google reveals nothing about FLAC on the Zune, besides the fact that it's not supported. Has anyone figured out how to flash the firmware for a new one that DOES support FLAC? If all else fails, what's the easiest way to convert FLAC to WMA Lossless? And will quality suffer hugely in the process? Thanks guys.

Ya, sorry for late reply. I've confirmed it myself, it's indeed zune HD is playing lossless music files but at slightly lower bitrate as Zune client converts them to Zune HD as the picture shown below. My whole music library I made for Zune takes 26.4 GB while, it takes 22.53GB on Zune. 4.86Gb of 26.4 GB music library is lossy audio files.
