Unfortunately, its not possible for us to forsee if Microsoft will allow WP8 devices be compatible with ALAC files, in my opinion I doubt it ever will. It will support .m4a container but not the codec used by Apple. If you want to make a suggestion to Microsoft, do it through Windows Phone user voice forum:

And now the WP8 music app can't play back ALAC files. Why?
