Jun 01, 2017 · Firewire devices on Windows 8 or newer. With Windows 8, Microsoft dropped the Legacy 1394 bus controller driver (1394a) which was included with Windows 7. Some devices do not operate properly with the new (1394b) driver included in Windows 8 (or later). This applies to audio interfaces, video cameras, etc.

Feb 26, 2017 · I need to use the legacy firewire drivers for my system. Windows 8 does not have this driver anymore and it does not allow the installation of the driver files from a Windows 7 system due to driver signing. The only way to get the driver to install is by enabling test mode and disabling something else. This results in a screen watermark.

The problem was with the Windows 10, 7, Windows 8 and 8.1 FireWire driver (a.k.a. the 1394 Driver) and the fix was a simple one. For Windows 7, just use the Legacy driver. Just follow the instructions below. If you are on Windows 10, or 8 or 8.1 you will need to download the Legacy driver from Microsoft.
