Oct 12, 2016 · Windows 7 do support hardware-based RAID using a hardware raid controller. This is by design. I assume that the reason may be that Windows 7 doesn't support dynamic disk, however software RAID is dependent on Dynamic Disk.

May 30, 2009 · However, I was unable to find any info on raid support. I also did some further testing, due to lack of available hardware (disks), with VHD files. It seems my copy of Windows 7 (32 bit) has RAID 5 support locked out. The option is displayed in popup menus, but always grayed out :
