There are a couple of programs that add the capabilities, but those that are free usually only provide you with access to playing unencrypted Blu-Ray discs. That's a problem since most commercial movies are encrypted which in itself is a form of weak copy-protection.

Mar 16, 2016 · If the computer has a Blu-Ray optical drive it makes perfect sense that it would support Blu-Ray playback. To not have it is just plain retarded. For Windows OS to not support it is just plain lazy. Sony pays Microsoft for their OS but Microsoft refuses to pay Sony for the Blu-Ray licensing.

Jun 09, 2013 · VLC only plays non encrypted Blu-rays, meaning only Blu-rays that you've burned yourself and not the ones that you buy. I have a VAIO pc that came with a Blu-ray burner running windows 8. The software that I used on windows 7 still works on windows 8.
