They won't fit. Use the proper type of RAM boards for the proper slot, unless you want to pay for new RAM boards or a new motherboard. A mother board that has DDR2 DIMM slots will support DDR2 DIMM chips only. There is no way you can use a DDR3 RAM on a DDR2 motherboard.4/5(1)

A mother board that has DDR2 DIMM slots will support DDR2 DIMM chips only. There is no way you can use a DDR3 RAM on a DDR2 motherboard . Some motherboards would have 4 slots and 2 of them would take DDR2 while the other two DDR3 .4/5(3)

Sep 17, 2013 · The computer is a Compaq Presario CQ40. It currently has 1 GB of RAM DDR2 (Samsung-manufactured). There are two slots in the RAM part. It says 766 MB usable ( which I think is because part of it goes to being the graphics card).

Jul 18, 2015 · My PC manufacturer tech support told me Windows 10 will only run on DDR 3 boards or higher but I don't see no mention of this on the Windows website; they said I can still run Windows 10 on a DDR2 board but it will be slow and most of the software from Windows 10 won't be able to run or function correctly.
