- vtiger logs the ticket - tickets are categorized somehow - tickets are assigned to one of our support staff, either by them selecting the ticket or by some assignment rule - staff can respond to the support request, usually this would be by email. i take it i need the outlook/thunderbird (i think it is) plugin?

this leaves me in a situation where trouble tickets can be created, but only checked if a support user logs into the system. i would like vtiger to email the support staff to tell them a trouble ticket has been created so they can solve the users problem and close down the ticket.
