Is it correct to state that this is completely outside the VMware support domain (i.e. VMware Production support, VMware Gold support etc) and thus, no support is available directly from VMware?

Jun 11, 2015 · Bryan beat me to it. Base Essentials doesn't have support, it's Subscription only, meaning you automatically get license keys to new versions when they are released. All other VMware products have SnS, i.e. Subscription and Support. Still worth it though, for the ability to upgrade whenever you wish to.

Yeah that is only license and access to upgrades to new versions such as 5.5 to 6.0. We have a lot of customers who opt for subscription only. We have several VCPs on staff so it can be a good gamble for them, and a single support case is only $299 anyways so in the rare case you need it, it's not a crazy cost to the customer.
