Very clean win98 install with usb working great, mass storage and other usb attached items show up just fine. When I connect the usb Printer, windows detects > Asks for drivers > Installs fine > Reboot Back on desktop > Printers > print test page > pause > printer driver generated USB communication error (not general windows error)

Microsoft left most OEM's to the task of making their own USB drivers for Win98, and much better native support came after Win98, particularly starting with Win2000.

Oct 26, 2018 · Every time in devices and printer it says it has a driver problem. Troubleshoot, and it comes back to USB Printing Support Driver. Says to reboot to fix, never fixes. In device manger, there's the yellow triangle with the black exclamation point next to USB Printing Support.
