I wanted to install the Japanese language on my ubuntu 16.04, but following some tutorials, I realized that it was not present in the language-support panel, in install/remove languages. In almost every discussion I have seen on this topic, people could choose a wide variety of languages, but I can only choose between French or English.

When you install Ubuntu, the language you select at installation gets installed together with English, but you can add further languages. Open the Activities overview and start typing Region & Language .

Mar 18, 2018 · Hi, to completely change your system language from one to another; go to Control Center > Personal > "Language Support" then click on Install/Remove languages, make sure that the only language in the list is the one you want, example: English.Take the tick out of any unwanted languages and leave only one tick in English!!.

Click on the ‘Install / Remove Languages’ button to pull up the list of available languages ; Click on the box to right of the language(s) you want to add to put a tick in the box (you can add more than one language pack if you wish, see note). Click on the ‘Apply Changes’ button.
