There appears to be no way to get support for 8-bit pseudocolor (overlay) visuals in a 24-bit default setup for Solaris 10 guests. Such support is essential for older graphic applications. I need to run Xnest in 8-bit mode for an application, so I need support for both 24-bit and 8-bit visuals. Altering xorg.conf does not seem to help.

Oct 28, 2009 · This is not the same as actually creating a pseudocolor visual - an xdpyinfo with my 7600GT shows that pseudocolor is not one of the visuals that is supported in 24 bit mode. On a Sun Blade (sparc) with a XVR-500 card, running Xnest in 8-bit pseudocolor mode is no problem at all in an otherwise 24-bit environment.This is a very different story.

It is a retired and unsupported product. HP never made any changes to it at least through V7.2. I seem to remember that V7.3 was under development but never completed.
