Sep 10, 2015 · Hello there, I'm trying to run a live P2V using vmware converter standalone 6.0.0 running on the actually physical machine to be converted and after selecting the ESXi 5.5 destination I get "The destination does not support EFI firmware".

Feb 13, 2019 · From VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 6.2.0.1 Release Notes - Debian is not supported distro.. Converter asks ESX about supported options for recognized GOS including EFI. Unfortunately in your case the ESX's answer is "no". Try to find how to cheat Debian distribution to be recognized by Converter as previous version or different but supported GOS.

The source computer has EFI firmware. Conversion of live computers with EFI firmware is not support. Conversion of virtual machines with EFI firmware is supported only if the destination supports EFI firmware and disk-based cloning is performed. I know why, but please give me only the solutions.

The stand alone converter pretty much immediately detects the EFI BIOS and says that it cannot continue. Yes the 12 hours has come and gone... However, I'm still waiting Symantec System Recovery to complete (8 hours remaining) converting it's backup to a VMware workstation 6 VM (as opposed to converting it directly to the ESX server, which doesn't work), so we'll see how that goes.

As discussed elsewhere, Windows Server 2008/R2 will automatically use the EFI boot loader when installed on EFI systems, and will also automatically use the GPT partitioning scheme on such systems. And you can't do anything at all about this (other than force the system to switch to BIOS, if this is supported).. But, as documented here, VMware Converter is not going to convert GPT disks.

Apr 10, 2019 · Some firmware does not comply with standards and may not report the EFI configuration to Windows correctly. In order to debug this, I need a couple of things. Please let me know the make and model of the PC or motherboard. More importantly, please run C:\grub2\winsource\xxdiag.bat as an administrator (by right clicking it).
