Oct 05, 2012 · I can't advise you "step by step" how to get the sound back because I'm not there and have no way of knowing if your laptop has any hardware issues. What you really need to do is format the hard drive and do a clean reinstall of Windows XP SP3 and get a fresh start with that laptop, but that obviously isn't going to happen.

Oct 28, 2011 · And when I go to install the SoundMax 64-bit Vista drivers (which EVERYONE says is supposed to work on Windows 7) it says "the audio driver files do not support your computer's hardware" before the installation starts. The only thing I really want from the SoundMax drivers is their MIDI synthesizer, becasue the default Windows ones are terrible.

I think the best fix can be what SoundMAX and McKnife have suggested. Uninstalling the SoundMAX from control panel >> program and features and reinstalling it. You can also restore the PC to the state before that problem with System Restore : Click on the Start menu and click on the Power button.

Aug 29, 2006 · my audio drivers will not install properly, when i attempt to install the drivers from the supplied disk (A8n-VM series), the soundcard in question is a "soundmax adi1986A" and whenever i try to install the drivers, it says it is searching for previously installed components, and suddenly recieve the message "the audio driver files do not support your computer hardware."
