@JRIDGE Perhaps you could pose this question about an Optiplex 330 microcode for the SLBBJ 5440 on overclock.net. It sure seems that the 330's BIOS does not include the SLBBJ microcode. I didn't want to mess with the microcode so I decided to install my SLBBJ versions of the E5440 in my Gigabyte G-3...

Search of Dell support I found this about the Optiplex 745 Dell™ OptiPlex™ 745 Boot Error: "System does not support the installed processor" I know it not your systems but seeing that both Bios updates you did pertain to "New Intel Processor Microcode Updates" I would guess that the new Bios does have a bug.

From personal experience, when I installed the SLANS version E5440 CPUs in an Optiplex 330/360, these computers booted up and ran normally. However, recently I’ve tried installing SLBBJ versions of the E5440 and my Optiplex 330 and 360 and both showed this warning message at startup: “System does not support the installed processor.”
