sox still doesn't support mp3 after its source is recompiled with mp3 support. I am trying to re-compile sox source with mp3 support on CentOS 5. Note sox-12.18.1-1.el5_5.1 has been installed on my CentOS machine for a while.

My USE flags include mp3, and there's no reference to that USE flag in the "emerge -pv" output for sox: ... Is there another flag I need for mp3 support? If so, which one? EDIT: Never mind... it turned out that "mad" was the flag I needed. ...

Because of patent reasons precompiled SoX versions do not support mp3 processing and needs to be self-compiled with lame and mad codec.

Thanks, awesome: it worked. I ended up using the trim for simplicity. The only downer was sox FAIL formats: can't open output file 'blah.mp3': SoX was compiled without MP3 encoding support --so, re-enter ffmpeg :/ – Mark Hudson Aug 5 '11 at 19:27. That seems unusual.

Now, I’m trying to put together a simple script to merge an MP3 playlist into a single MP3. Sox should do the trick … but it doesn’t come with built-in MP3 support (for obvious reasons). Here’s what I did to build MP3 support into Sox — many thanks to a good post by Michael Walma on the Ubuntu Forums.

Dec 13, 2008 · I can export to mp3 files, but when I try to open an mp3 file, I receive a message that this version of Audacity was not compiled for mp3 support. I have hunted everywhere I can think of for a compiled version of Audacity (I am not confident about compiling from source myself) without success.
