The reason why it’s not officially available, it seems, is due to licensing issues rather than technical capability. However do read on to see my experience with accessing an NTFS volume on my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard with the latest updates.

Jun 28, 2010 · As others mentioned Snow Leopard can read from NTFS, but can't write to it without the above aides. You can't setup an NTFS volume as a boot volume on a Mac, or FAT32 for that matter. So consider your hard drive usage and decide the best solution to meet your needs.

Sep 14, 2009 · I am sure many of you heard that Snow Leopard was supposed to have native read/write for NTFS partitions. Apple supported NTFS R/W in older SL builds but I guess decided to not to go with it for some reason, however support is still present.

Sep 18, 2009 · There had been mentions of Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) pre-release builds supporting read/write support for NTFS (native file system for current Windows versions). Read-only NTFS support was available since Tiger (10.4) days, so this was an interesting development.
