Server 2008 is currently in "extended support" -- Mainstream Support ended last year. Exchange 2007 is also in Extended Support but that ends next April. After which the entire server will be fully unsupported if Exchange 2007 Remains.

Mainstream support ends Jan 2015, so only 2 years, but MS will continue to provide bug-fix and critical updates for the next 5 years. A lot of people are still using SBS 2003 10 years later and SBS 2011 only went to market in March 2011, so it is only 2 years old, but will be the last SBS server produced.

Due to the timing of the release of Windows Server 2016, an extension was required. The newly published October Mainstream and Extended end dates are correct.
