I bought a cheap sil3114 sata card to try as an add-in card in a motherboard that has no SATA ports. It worked OK until I tried flashing its BIOS to the latest version. The updflash.exe utility started up, but failed. Now the sil3114 card hangs the computer when booting. Seems I bricked its BIOS.

Oct 29, 2010 · One of my RAID5 drives (I have 3x 2TB WD Green drives in the array) failed today and the system will not boot… haven’t been home to check it out but I’m seriously hoping (and I feel fairly confident that this is the case) that I can just unplug the drive and my “Reduced” array will still be fine. I’d hate to lose 3TB of data!

I also have a Debian 6 ZoL 0.6.2 (multi-mirror) system with 8 SSDs on a LSI SAS2008, speed is not the best (600MB/s, same SSDs on a SAS2008 on a SuperMicro Mainboard do ~1000MB/s in RAID10) but still very good - again stable without ...
