Dec 13, 2012 · Office 2004 and below are written in PowerPC Language and therfor do not work on Lion (OSX.7.x) or Mountain Lion (OSX.8.x). 2008 is written so that it will run either in PowerPC or Intel Machine. 2011 is written strictly for intel Based Machine OSX.7 and 8 no longer have Rosetta which allows PowerPC apps to work on an Intel Machine.

I eventually discovered how to reenable FTP in Mountain Lion and setup the FTP service all running well. Unfortunately the support centre (in the UK) were pretty hopeless and didn't know about the inability for SMB scanning or how to setup the FTP method. They basically just used google while I was on the phone and read the manual to me.
