Feb 08, 2013 · TF2-S3TC Texture Support So when ever I launch TF2, I get this error, so obviously, it won't launch. "Required OpenGL extension "GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc" is not supported.

Jul 19, 2011 · The Xonotic-S2TC developers acknowledge the quality is not as good as S3TC, but it is an open-source solution and is at least better than black textures (what happens usually when S3TC support is required by the OpenGL game/application but there is no driver support).

May 11, 2018 · Upgrade the VMware SVGA driver by updating VMware Tools to version 10.2.5. Downgrade the hardware version from 14 to 12. This in case there is some quirk of version 14 hardware compatibility. This is almost like downgrading Workstation software from 14.x to 12.x (well almost).
