Dec 19, 2007 · Re: Ridge Beam Support Figuring a 40' span with 3-1/2" bearings and assuming a 24' carried width, and a L/240 with a maximum of 1/2" deflection, and a 30/7 load, you could either use a W18x119 or a W21x93. 1/2" max might be a little limiting so say we extend it to 1" max, than you can use either a W14x99 or a W16x77.
