Jun 12, 2006 · if you intend to upgrade your internal HD there are no problem : your R52 support LBA 48 bit. just check the HD list compatibility to avoid annoying allerts during the start-up. i had "problems" cause trying to format connecting the new HD by an eclosure. My old enclosure did not support LBA 48 bit. If you will install as internal HD will be ok.

Feb 02, 2006 · It's got to do with the way the LBA/48 bit support is detected I think. I've only ever seen it happen with sata drives too. I tried a full write 0 using seagates disc wizard but that didn't fix it.

Nov 27, 2004 · ALL VERSIONS OF WINDOWS DO NOT SUPPORT 48 BIT lba by default. MSDOS up to 6.22 doesnt support 48 Bit LBA at all. 2 GIGS fat is the Limit for Dos. About 80 Gigs FAT32 is the Limit for WIN98SE. You can patch WIN98SE 's FDISK to get larger drives but SCANDISK.EXE will not be able to repair a partition larger than 80 gigs.

None of the ATA-66 cards offered large hard drive support with 48-bit LBA addressing that I am aware of. The ATA-100 cards definitely do. Some of the earlier Promise ATA-100 cards were shipped without 48-bit LBA addressing enabled and required a simple firmware update to support the larger hard drives.
