LETR began in 1981 when Wichita, Kansas Police Chief Richard LaMunyon created the Torch Run. He thought the Torch Run would help law enforcement be active in the community and support Special Olympics Kansas.

Jul 24, 2019 · Across the state, CDCR employees joined other law enforcement agencies to complete the Law Enforcement Torch Run, carrying the Flame of Hope. It culminated with the opening ceremony at UC Davis for the games of the Special Olympics of Northern California and in San Diego for the Special Olympics of Southern California.
