Mar 07, 2013 · As we all know, PLAYBAR doesn't support DTS audio. If you feed it DTS, you simply get "unsupported" as the input type and silence from the speakers. For my birthday today, I received a Superman blu-ray box set and looked forward to watching the movies in HD and PLAYBAR surround sound. Unfortunate...

Jan 10, 2018 · The PLAYBAR and PLAYBASE are compatible with any television that has an optical digital audio output. The PLAYBAR and PLAYBASE are compatible with a Dolby Digital 5.1 or Stereo PCM signal passed via optical output. The PLAYBAR and PLAYBASE do not support the DTS format. It is in system requirements on sonos website:-

Feb 12, 2013 · There are no TVs on the market that support DTS I'm aware of. Nonetheless think of linking a BD-player directly (or through a splitter) that either puts out Bitstream (DD or DTS) or only 2.0 PCM. Playbar not supporting DTS means no sound at all if source is a DTS track or switching to 2.0 PCM for everything in most cases.

Since the Sonos PlayBar and PlayBase don't support DTS decoding, you won't be able to output a Dolby Digital signal from your player to the PlayBar or PlayBase in order to get discrete surround sound from DTS-encoded movies. However, there are a number of players (notably several models made by Samsung and Sony), which offer a feature called ...

Feb 08, 2019 · One final question on DTS, is my understanding correct that optical connections don’t have enough bandwidth to support DTS surround but HDMI does? And if so, does that mean that theoretically if Sonos chose to add DTS support in the future the Beam would be able to support the feature but the Playbar and Playbase would not? Thanks

The Playbar is Sonos in a soundbar – with a couple of little caveats, that’s as good a proposition as it seems Sonos has always done things its own way. It doesn't care about bouncing beams or 5.1 surround sound. When the Playbar, the first Sonos soundbar, originally came out, there was nothing ...5/5

Apr 13, 2014 · Hi Donovan. I'm not trying to defend the Sonos position, and I'm aware of the pass-through issue. As my earlier post pointed out, you can avoid pass-through by using a digital optical switch. But the Playbar's lack of support for DTS sabotages this unless you have a Blu-ray player that can transcode DTS into DD5:1.

Mar 07, 2017 · For one, the Playbase doesn’t support DTS multichannel audio. Neither does the Playbar. Here’s what a company spokesperson had to say about that decision (emphasis ours): For home entertainment, DTS content is only found on physical media such as DVD, Blu-ray and Laserdisc – no video streaming services such as Netflix or Hulu support DTS.

Sep 30, 2019 · The Sonos Playbar has a decent audio reproduction that's suitable for most music genres and dialogue content like podcasts and audiobooks. It does lack a bit of sub-bass, which might not be ideal for action movies or bass-heavy music. Also, it has a sub-par performance with surround channels and doesn’t support height channels and Atmos.6.8/10
