I've played a full support bard in the past and it was awesome. I'd skip whip entirely for my part now (though my original bard also used a whip). I'd go with a longspear, and the flagbearer feat as soon as you can afford a banner of the ancient kings.

The bard list has a few immediate action spells that are really handy. Saving Finale and really, all the 'finale' spells will be nice for support. Gallant Inspiration can be used to help your allies confirm critical hits - they will love you for that.. Confusion might be a good spell to use with eager performer.

Bard. I'm currently a Bard in our Pathfinder game. My first Bard, my first Pathfinder game, and it seems like a solid source of support and buffs. Using the Master Performer and Grand Master Performer Faction Feats has my level 12 Bard providing +5 bonuses with his Inspire Courage.
