Sep 08, 2008 · you may want to check your math. 48bit 2^48 LBA is 144PB which is ~96,000 1.5TB drives I can see that number of drives in perhaps some VERY large scientific data collection environments (not that SIZE of a drive but the quantity) in total (across all systems) but that's still a stretch and they would not be using 48bit but 64bit (SAS/FC/infiband et al)..

Jan 26, 2010 · It's because some OS are using only 32 bits for sector addressing, and set a limit of 2^32 * 2^9 = 2^41 (2TB) in single drive. I know XP does not support over 2TB drive, but XP-64 and Windows 7do. I was told it's merely a config option at build for linux to support over 2TB drives.
