Sep 30, 2011 · Getting Bitten By The OS 9 Bug. I recently wrote a guide to setting up a beater Mac with a G4 and OS X Tiger. While I still stand behind the article (and indeed am using that same Mac to write this very piece), it was something of a learning experience and I've since realized I was a little too hasty to dismiss anything pre-Tiger as too old to be useful for users today.

What I mean is that I have a Mac that is already quite happily running Tiger (with all the updates) but I'd very much like to install Mac OS 9.2.1 "Classic" so that when I put an old game CD in the drive, the eMac recognises the fact that it is an older game and fires it up in Classic mode.

READ THIS ENTIRE POST If you have Mac OS X Installed and want to Install Mac OS 9 from within OS X In the download folder (linked below), you will find a disk image ("dmg") file called OS9General.dmg that you can download to your OS X partition. You can then use the Mac OS X program "Disk Utility" to restore it to a new, empty disk partition.

Jan 09, 2012 · This program was working perfectly when the mac had osx 10.2 and classic, os 9.2, on it, but I had to take the osx up to Tiger to run some other software. It may be relevant that if I attempt to boot up the mac in os 9, it just hangs with the happy mac face showing, and goes no further.
