The <canvas> tag should having a corresponding closing tag </canvas>. While some browsers will let you get by with just an opening tag, others (such as Firefox, and perhaps IE) won't. In addition, IE9 requires you to declare an HTML5 doctype to use the canvas tag. You can do this by placing <!DOCTYPE html> at the top of your code.

Mar 07, 2012 · Since all other browsers I have tested renders this correctly (including flashcanvas in IE6/7/8) it should be of Microsofts interest to change the behaviour. Maybe it is not a bug, but it makes drawing to canvas in IE quite useless. Can someone with good knowledge about the rendering engine in IE9/10 help me out here.

My recommendation is to (1) make sure you are using the most updated version of your Internet Browser and/or (2) try switching to Chrome or Firefox.
